KLT Machinery and Plant Hire were established by Mr Karl Erdmann and commenced operation in September 1973. The focus of business was mainly buying and selling of used earthmoving equipment and spares. Occasionally, however, this was not the primary focus of the business at that time.

The demand for hire equipment grew steadily, due to the high standards held by KLT in respect of meeting client production demands. This was achieved by minimizing down time by offering 24 hour support. Although hire of equipment grew steadily over the time, the sales of equipment and spares remained an integral part of the business.

KLT endured a massive loss when Karl, our managing director, passed away in 2003. After his passing, a management decision was made to ensure that KLT remained focused on the core business. The decision was taken to stop selling earthmoving equipment and parts and to concentrate on opencast mining, rehabilitation and specialized materials handling.

To develop the company to the benefit of the country and its entire people, ensuring that:
